Maintain the answer, the logic and the route to help

Assign an owner, review consequential facts when they change, version decision logic, and record the checks needed before publishing updates. Launch is a point in time; the offer and its evidence keep changing. I want someone to own the answer after publication, including the rules behind a tool and the paths people use to reach it. Maintenance is part of the decision help being offered.

“Measurement is what separates a decision asset you built once and forgot from one that gets better over time.”

— Curtiss Witt, The Decision Economy, Chapter 16.

Why does accuracy remain an ongoing responsibility?

An answer can become inaccurate when the offer, requirements, or supporting evidence changes. Publishing is therefore the beginning of maintenance, not the end of responsibility. Identify which facts are consequential enough that a change should trigger review rather than waiting for a general rewrite of the entire site.

Someone should be responsible for the current meaning of each important answer or tool. That owner can coordinate expertise and implementation, but the responsibility must be explicit. Otherwise a polished page can remain public while everyone assumes someone else is checking whether it still describes the business accurately.

Maintain one canonical destination for a question’s substantive answer. Related articles and videos can link to it rather than create competing versions. A stable home makes corrections easier to manage and gives readers a clear place to find the current explanation and its qualifications.

A page’s publication date, modification date, and the date of a factual check can represent different events. Keep them honest. Changing a displayed date does not establish that the evidence was reviewed, and a later article edit should not erase the historical context of a source.

Create a short inventory of changeable facts: offer scope, requirements, terms, evidence, next-step behavior, and tool contracts where relevant. The inventory should reflect the actual business. Its purpose is to identify review triggers, not to create a large generic checklist that nobody can maintain.

The comparison below describes two approaches to the work. It is a practical design contrast, not a measured claim that one approach always produces a better commercial outcome.

Information and activity approachDecision-support approach
Treat launch as the end of the work.Assign ongoing ownership and change triggers.
Update wording without reviewing the rules.Check affected inputs, outputs and limitations.
Leave older results unexplained.Keep meaningful versions and changes interpretable.

How should claims and sources be maintained?

When editing an answer, verify that the citation still supports the revised wording. A small change in scope can make an old source inadequate. Do not retain a reference as decoration after the claim has evolved beyond what the evidence actually establishes.

A source link can disappear or lead to different content. Check consequential references when updating the answer and repair the route where possible. If support can no longer be established, narrow the claim or disclose the gap rather than preserving an appearance of verification the reader cannot inspect.

Older research can remain useful when its date, scope, and limitations are clear. Do not present it as a current observation without a current basis. The article can explain what the source contributes while separating that contribution from any newer interpretation or business-specific claim.

A maintained authority article should be willing to revise a conclusion when evidence changes. Record the material correction and its reason. The goal is continued usefulness, not defending the first version or quietly altering the definition so that the original statement appears never to have been challenged.

Visible text, structured data, summaries, and linked tool descriptions should express the same substantive facts. Structured data is not a separate place for stronger claims. Review dependent representations when an important statement changes so a correction in the article does not leave misleading metadata behind. How should changes to decision logic be governed?

A ruleset version should identify changes that affect how inputs are interpreted or results produced. Keep the relationship between the article, schema, and current tool clear. A version number is useful when it helps someone know which behavior was used, not merely when it makes the asset look mature.

Record the reason for a substantive logic revision and the evidence or expertise behind it. This helps maintainers distinguish a correction from a design preference. The note should be understandable enough that a later reviewer can assess the intended effect without reconstructing the entire development history.

A changed rule can alter which questions matter, how unknowns are handled, or which action appears. Inspect those dependencies. Updating one line of logic is not complete if the explanation, schema, or result language still describes the old behavior and misleads the user about what happened.

Use checks that address the behavior changed, including meaningful boundary conditions. The aim is to verify the decision mechanism and its limits, not to produce a large test count. A focused test should establish what was intended and reveal whether the revision introduced a relevant inconsistency.

A user may retain a plan produced under an earlier version. Preserve enough version and scope information to explain what that result meant. Do not silently present a changed rule as though it had always governed every past output, especially when the difference affects the recommended action.

The working rule I return to is this: “Measurement is what separates a decision asset you built once and forgot from one that gets better over time.” It is a way to judge the next piece of work, while keeping its evidence and limitations visible.

What access and follow-up paths need review?

Verify that important navigation and internal links still reach the intended page. A correct article behind a broken route cannot provide the help promised by related content. Include the path to the result or resource in maintenance, rather than reviewing only the text of the page in isolation.

An API or agent consumer depends on documented inputs, outputs, and effects. Review the contract when implementation changes and test the relevant supported route. A stable URL does not mean the behavior is unchanged or that every existing client will interpret the new response correctly.

A manifest should distinguish supported routes from features awaiting validation. Update it when evidence justifies a changed status. Do not leave an unavailable route advertised as live or assume one interface’s successful test establishes support for every other door to the capability.

If a plan-email or help path changes, confirm that its wording still describes the action accurately and that consent remains separate where required by the design. The full decision-support result should not become accidentally gated because a later follow-up feature was added or revised.

Maintenance includes reviewing what information the system retains and why. The FTC’s business guidance supports keeping only information with a legitimate need. Operational logs should not become an unexamined archive of personal inputs merely because retaining everything makes debugging convenient. What makes a review process proportionate?

A regular review can help, but consequential changes should not wait for a calendar reminder. Identify events that require immediate attention, such as a changed offer or broken operation. The cadence and triggers should reflect the actual maintenance risk and ownership of the capability.

If a correction changes the answer a reader may rely on, explain the change clearly. The appropriate note depends on the significance of the revision. A material correction should not be hidden as a cosmetic edit, while routine wording improvements need not become an elaborate incident report.

DERA can provide a new orientation when the owner’s relevant answers change. Repeating the assessment does not independently verify the improvements. Keep the updated self-report result separate from public checks, technical tests, and behavioral evidence collected during maintenance. Decision Economy Institute: live capability manifest; accessed September 2026

A review may confirm some facts while leaving others unresolved. State what remains unknown and who owns the next check. This makes the current answer more useful than a broad “reviewed” label that gives no indication of which consequential conditions were actually examined.

The final question is whether the current answer or tool still helps the intended person make the stated choice. Correct links and valid contracts matter, but so do relevance, explanations, and limits. A maintained asset keeps all of those connected rather than treating technical uptime as the whole definition of accuracy.

What can I do with this today?

Start with one offer and write down the next decision this article helps you examine. Give the work a defined scope before adding a new page, tool or integration.

1. Maintain a short change and review log.

2. Identify the consequential fact or condition that remains uncertain. Name who can check it and what would establish completion.

3. If you need help ordering the business work, complete the free Decision Economy Readiness Assessment. Read its reasons and three starting actions, then choose the first task you can inspect.

Our own example is deliberately bounded. The Institute’s Method explains the owner-reported result; its capability manifest declares what the tool can do; and its assessment schema makes the question bank and data contract inspectable. These September 2026 publisher documents describe the assessment. They do not independently establish better customer or business outcomes.

Maintain the answer, the logic and the route to help

Before the next customer faces the same unresolved choice, identify the improvement that would make the answer more useful. Use the readiness assessment to turn your reported conditions into three starting actions, and keep the next evidence check in view.

FAQ

Who should own an important answer?

Someone should be responsible for the current meaning of each important answer or tool. That owner can coordinate expertise and implementation, but the responsibility must be explicit. Otherwise a polished page can remain public while everyone assumes someone else is checking whether it still describes the business accurately.

Why preserve historical context?

Older research can remain useful when its date, scope, and limitations are clear. Do not present it as a current observation without a current basis. The article can explain what the source contributes while separating that contribution from any newer interpretation or business-specific claim.

Why record the reason for a rule change?

Record the reason for a substantive logic revision and the evidence or expertise behind it. This helps maintainers distinguish a correction from a design preference. The note should be understandable enough that a later reviewer can assess the intended effect without reconstructing the entire development history.

Does optional contact behavior still work as described?

If a plan-email or help path changes, confirm that its wording still describes the action accurately and that consent remains separate where required by the design. The full decision-support result should not become accidentally gated because a later follow-up feature was added or revised.

What uncertainty remains after review?

A review may confirm some facts while leaving others unresolved. State what remains unknown and who owns the next check. This makes the current answer more useful than a broad “reviewed” label that gives no indication of which consequential conditions were actually examined.

Do I need to share contact details before seeing the assessment result?

No. The complete result is available before an optional email request. If a contact commitment has held you back, try the free readiness assessment and read the plan first. Emailing it and consenting to future updates are separate choices. The result remains BY YOUR ACCOUNT.
